Single folded letter with readable address and contemporary postmark.  This dates from before the invention of the postage stamp in 1840.

These envelopes are miniature reproductions of old letters, which look as if they have been freshly delivered. At this time envelopes were not always used, instead the sheet of paper that the letter was written on was folded up, sealed together and the address written on the outside. These envelopes are constructed just like the real thing and glued together. They do NOT open.
